Biography

Portrait tete haute B&W

The work of Stéphanie le Grelle (Wilrijk – 1964) attempts to shed light on the darkest shadows of the forest.

In the solitary silence of creativity, her accurate, ambitious technique sets the great cycle of nature on paper. Black lead becomes the sap that brings new life to a dead tree, springing up from death with its parade of suffering.

Knotty trunks, winding roots like as many faces, often tortured, at times serene, always human, call to us in their fascinating nudity from the edge of their microcosm, inviting us to share their world of authenticity.
